Commissioner Reports

Commissioner Morris and S Lindgren set up a folding table with an ice chest full of bottled water, there were assorted chips and scorecards with pencils as giveaways to the public in attendance for the Hoodsport Hills Disc Golf Course “Back Nine” Grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony. Commissioner Heil set up signs and flags at the kiosk.  There were a few disc golfers who were at the disc golf course for the first time.  A worldwide disc golf tournament was being held at the Shelton disc golf course today, so they showed up to play the 9-hole course at the Hoodsport Hills disc golf course.  They all loved the area, praised the beauty and said they were excited to play in such an amazing setting.  At 11:10 am disc golfers and all in attendance stopped to listen to the ribbon cutting speech given by Commissioner Kincannon who introduced herself, thanked everyone for coming and said, “the Port of Hoodsport is pleased to announce the grand opening of the “Back Nine,” a newly completed expansion of the Hoodsport Hills Disc Golf Course in this beautiful setting emphasizing the natural landscape. The course, nestled within the scenic Hoodsport Trail Park, now features 18 holes and spans 20 acres on the south side of State Route 119, adjacent to the Lake Cushman Golf Course. This unique and challenging course offers an exceptional experience for both amateur and professional disc golf enthusiasts.

This project represents a significant investment in recreational development, made possible through the responsible removal of diseased and hazardous trees adding an additional 10-acre expansion. These improvements enhance not only the disc golf course, but also the overall park experience—preserving and encouraging new growth as a vital environmental and community resource for generations to come.

Special recognition goes to Port of Hoodsport Facility Maintenance Supervisor Scott Lindgren, whose vision, design, and year-long leadership were instrumental in bringing this project to life. Working in partnership with Forest McCullough of NW Land and Tree Service, the team overcame challenging weather conditions to craft a course that reflects the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.  Thank you for all you have done, you are appreciated!

To support ongoing maintenance and stewardship of the course, the Port is establishing the Hoodsport Trail Team Volunteer Group. Volunteers will work in coordination with the Facility Maintenance Supervisor to help preserve the course year-round, ensuring it remains a high-quality outdoor destination for the community and visitors alike.

Lastly, we want to thank the community for their patience and I’m sure you will believe, like we do, that it was all worth it.  Now, Commissioners Morris, Heil and I will cut the ribbon to celebrate the grand opening of the new ‘Back Nine’ holes at the Hills Disc Golf Course, officially on May 17th, 2025.

Thank you all for your support of the Port of Hoodsport and our great community.”

People who were in attendance were encouraged to have refreshments, scorecards & pencils.  Commissioner Kincannon said let’s pack it up, and the ceremony ended at 11:30am.
