Approval of Agenda: Commissioner Kincannon motioned to approve May 13, 2026, agenda amending public speakers to add Jan Morris, Jeff Barna and Anton W., Commissioner Morris seconded; all in favor.
Public speakers: Jan Morris – Fjordin Crossin, Jeff Barna – Biologist & Volunteer at Hoodsport Trail Park, Anton Jackson – WA Student Achievement Council
Minutes: Commissioner Kincannon motioned to approve the Regular port commission meeting minutes from April 15, 2026, Commissioner Bly seconded, unanimously approved.
Vouchers: Commissioner Kincannon motioned to approve 2026 Voucher April 1of1 in the amount of $12,462.00 Commissioner Morris seconded, unanimously approved.
Public Communication: J Morris said, I think the Fjordin Crossin event will be huge this year, Mollie at Market Fresh Grocery is excited to be a part of our event this year, they will be charging for parking and donating the proceeds to the Fjordin Crossin event, they will also have a bouncy house for the kids. Mason & Kerry have been videotaping and posting on Facebook. We are up to 70 registered boaters. On Friday night we will be doing fundraising with Fjordin Crossin cocktails and beer at the brewery; we have volunteer sign-up sheets for the day of the event. Rotary will be volunteering that day. The fire department will have a boat at the dock; the Sheriff’s Office will have a safety boat on the water, Cindy Sund is in charge of safety. Commissioner Kincannon said it sounds like a great event; we look forward to it. J Barna said I did a tour of the Hoodsport Trail Park with Commissioner Bly and S Lindgren to get a vision for the future. I have been working on clearing the upper trail, I need a chain saw for the larger logs and to coordinate with S Lindgren to use the Port’s tools. I have been enjoying the work and the new portable restroom in the trail park parking lot. Commissioner Morris said we appreciate your vision, time and help, thank you. A. Jackson said we have financial aid for Washington citizens with 2- and 4-year college grants for institutions and apprenticeship programs promoting awareness for those who may need assistance in learning in an environment supported by business in construction and forestry whose businesses are registered with L&I. We have funding available at the state level to pursue a workforce with certification. Commissioner Kincannon said it sounds like a great program. Commissioner Bly said, “can a business reach out to you if they are looking for an apprentice? A. Jackson said yes, you can reach out to me. Commissioner Kincannon thanked A Jackson for his presentation.
Port Maintenance Reports:
Hoodsport Trail Park & Disc Golf Park: S Lindgren said everything seems to be growing really fast in the forest, we are clearing the trails as fast as we can. S Lindgren said, the disc golf course is open and looks good. We got a new portable restroom and it’s a hit, Brandy with AAA was awesome.
Hoodsport Marina, Dock & Waterfront Park: S Lindgren said the dock has been pressure washed and looks good. We ordered flowers two weeks ago; the shipment has been delayed, it may be here today, we will get them planted as soon as they arrive. We are ready for the Fjordin Crossin event. The light trap for the crab larvae that belongs to the Skokomish biology department has been moved a few times during harsh weather conditions. YSS had their annual event but did not stay long, they set up tents at their new location, divers came for a few hours then left to their storefront. The Director asked Commissioner Morris if he received their deposit, he said no, I will follow up with Seth who works for them.
Portable Restrooms: The Port of Hoodsport and Hood Canal Market Fresh share the cost of renting portable restrooms for public use. In the summer season, May–October, restrooms are serviced 3 times per week. In winter, October – April rentals are serviced twice per week. The Ports maintenance monitors them for trash and additional toilet paper as needed in between services.
Port parking/Office building/Maintenance shed: The locals continue to throw personal trash in all of the port’s public garbage cans and discard junk at the trail park parking lots, we unfortunately have to take pay to take it all to the dump.
Port Directors Report: The director said we have confirmed that Andra will attend the June 3rd meeting to discuss the PMA, after we have a final approval, we will send the PMA to the Port’s attorney for review. Commissioner Morris said I have not yet followed up on the Dock Maintenance Program with Cory, I will find the time before the next meeting. The Director said, I will contact our web designer regarding the new brochure when we finalize details, I have also gone through the website and have requested updates to be made when she has the time. The Port’s CPA and I are going through our annual Schedule 22 Audit with the State of Washington right now, it will be submitted by May 31st. A Spring newsletter was submitted to Lake Cushman administration for publication in their monthly newsletter.
Budget: Financial statements for April 2026 were reviewed
