Public Communication:   J Morris said the Fjordin Crossin will be on June 13, 2026, I think it will be big this year, Kerri did a video on Facebook, it had twenty-five thousand views.  Rotary and others asked if the Port could fill in the bottom of the concrete steps going down to the beach on both sides of the stairways.  S Lindgren said the tide washes it away.  Commissioner Morris said maybe we can build a portable wooden platform out of pressure treated wood to use for the day, I will volunteer to help build the steps. Commissioner Kincannon said we can put some roofing paper on it so it’s nonslip.  J Morris said we are expecting more people planning to offload boats on the grassy area at the waterfront park, I think we will use the entire beach, and both sets of stairs, there will be 124-172 boats on the beach.  We are hiring the state patrol again this year, it cost $2500. last year, we would like to find a sponsor.  The Sheriff and fire department will be back again this year.  We now have a committee, Cindy Sund is in charge of safety.

Commissioner Reports:

Commissioner Kincannon said I sent in the application for the North Mason County Chamber, I am looking forward to getting more involved.  Commissioner Morris said we had a meeting with the new staff at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) about the Property Management Agreement (PMA), they said after submitting the application and documents they requested, it will take four to six weeks before they get back to us.  I received an email from Mara at the Department of Commerce (DOC) asking where we are in the lease renewal process, we are waiting on DNR and are trying to fast track so we can pass the paperwork on to the DOC.  Commissioner Bly said I would like to go up to the Hoodsport Trail Park with S Lindgren to get acquainted with the trail park and disc golf course.  S Lindgren said “I am ready when you are.  Commissioner Kincannon said a tree branch fell on the trail to lake Lena and killed two women last week.  Commissioner Morris said that is why we are taking out hazard trees in the trail park, there are two types of fungus that attack the trees, one is poria and the other is laminated root rot which are in the soil that never goes away, it affects a couple of types of trees.  Commissioner Kincannon said I will write an article for the paper to let people know we are just finishing up hazard tree removal in the park to prepare for the summer season. Commissioner Morris said after the hazard tree removal, we will target the invasive species weeds.

Port Maintenance Reports:

Hoodsport Trail Park & Disc Golf Park: S Lindgren said hazard trees are coming out of the park but the lumber companies stopped accepting trees so we may have to wait on some of them, if we fall them and don’t remove them right away, people will try to steal them.  The park is closed when they are working on the trees.  The disc golf course is open.

Hoodsport Marina, Dock & Waterfront Park: S Lindgren said we are still battling moles.  The Christmas decorations were taken down and stored in the Ports office until the committee picks them up.  Commissioner Morris said, “I will contact John. S Lindgren said, “next year it should be easy to put up the tree in the new holder.

Portable Restrooms: The Port of Hoodsport and Hood Canal Market Fresh share the cost of renting portable restrooms for public use.  In the summer season, May–October, restrooms are serviced 3 times per week.  In winter, October – April rentals are serviced twice per week. The Ports maintenance department monitors them for trash and additional toilet paper as needed in between services.

Port parking/Office building/Maintenance shed: Locals continue to throw personal trash in all of the port’s public garbage cans and discards furniture and junk at the trailpark.

Port Directors Report:

The director said we moved $14,409.00 instead of the approved $22,221.00 from the investment account into the general account due to an offset of revenue received from hazard trees before the end of 2025. The port commission made a motion to purchase a four-year warranty for the trail park’s Mule at a reduced cost of 42% per year as opposed to an annual warranty renewal.  The election fees for 2025 that will be swept from the Port’s general account in January is $1062.00.  Commissioner Bly is required to swear in once again as now an elected Commissioner starting her 6year term as Port of Hoodsport Port Commissioner Position #1.  Commissioner Bly read the Oath of office; it was witnessed and signed.
