OF THE PORT OF HOODSPORT COMMISSION

July 16, 2014

Approval of Agenda:
Commissioner Petz made a motion to approve the 07-16-14 meeting agenda. Commissioner O’Laughlin seconded, unanimously approved.

Minutes:
Commissioner O’Laughlin made a motion to approve the minutes of July 9, 2014. Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Vouchers:
Commissioner Petz made a motion to approve the Voucher of July 2014 2of2 $1,945.99 Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Public Communication:

John Dobson shared resources, ideas and experiences with the Port Commissioners regarding tenants and concessions handled at the industrial park owned by the Port of Shelton. He was very informative regarding resources who understand how Ports operate and their parameters.

Commissioner Reports:

The Port is on a fact finding mission only for possible Recreational activities geared to bring tourism, local jobs, fun and local revenue to Hoodsport. When it is determined by the Port and Public that the activities are feasible, the Port will solicit bids from all Vendors to get the best RFP with guidelines acceptable to the Port.

There will be further discussion with the County to determine feasibility of the selected property for additional Public parking.

Commissioner Brazil submitted a diagram of the pier and 250′ range for fireworks safety in 2015. The Fire Marshall will be contacted regarding code and RCW compliance to determine the best course of action to operate within the parameters, the Port of Hoodsport will support the local businesses. Commissioner Brazil attended the EDC meeting & learned many businesses would like to be in Mason County.

Port Maintenance Reports:

Hoodsport Marina: Use of the boat slips & moorage has increased. No problems to report. Public Restrooms: Usual maintenance regarding plugged toilets and toilet paper theft. Someone pulled the magnetic locking mechanism out of the men’s restroom door destroying the electrical panel. The door lock has been repaired and is back on a timer. Hoodsport Trail Park:

Everything is running smoothly.

Port Operations Manager Report:

Ongoing discussion and fact finding, exploration and research continue regarding Canopy Tours, Disc Golf, Trail Extension & additional public parking in town. Coordinating a time when the Commissioners can walk the corners of the Hoodsport Trail Park. Ongoing research to determine steps on acquiring additional public parking and the trail extension.

Budget:
Review of Expenditures/Revenue month ending June 2014

Old Business:

There was continued discussion on the Food Bank Van and their alternatives.

An interest in Canopy Tours will be investigated further to determine the feasibility of this sport in this area. Disc Golf will also be examined as it has become a popular sport. Both of these sports could bring tourism and local jobs to the Hoodsport area. Extending the hiking trail from Hoodsport Trail Park to the Foothills Park is being explored. The Additional downtown public parking is being explored with the County. The Port is working on a Revision of Comprehensive Plan.
