The prominent businesses and longtime community members represented above have endorsed this letter in support of the Port of Hoodsport Dock and Pier
Honorable Legislators,
As Friends of the Hoodsport public pier and dock, we stand united in support of the Port of Hoodsport’s 2024 capital budget funding request for $40,000 to support emergency repairs to the public dock. Hoodsport is located on the eastern edge of the Olympic Peninsula, and is a small town surrounded by natural beauty. Its four-block downtown area is clustered along Hood Canal, which is a narrow saltwater fjord spanning 40 miles long.
The public pier and dock in Hoodsport serve as the only access point for emergency medical services if US Hwy 101 encounters road closures and Hoodsport, and the surrounding communities of Lilliwaup, Skokomish, Potlatch and Mason County residents, rely on this.
Hoodsport attracts locals and visitors alike with endless fishing and hiking opportunities on Hood Canal, at the Lake Cushman recreation area, and the nearby Olympic National Park. This region is a vacation and tourism destination for thousands with world-class scuba diving, fishing, kayaking and boating. Quaint small-town businesses including wineries, brew pubs, local craft shops, unique restaurants, local seafood and locally distilled spirits are all within a mile of the dock.
The public pier and dock are the heart of this small, rural community, and we need your help to complete the emergency repairs needed to reopen it. Please support the Port of Hoodsport’s funding request for $40,000 so the public pier and dock can reopen and continue to serve as an economic and outdoor recreational asset to our community.
Respectfully submitted,
Friends of the Hoodsport Dock and Pier
