Commissioner Reports: Commissioner Brazil has had people up from the Lake Cushman subdivision asking him when the Disc Golf Course will be finished. He told them it was a bad winter to work on the course and it is taking longer to complete. He said there has been Elk on the Lake Cushman Golf Course so they are probably wandering around the Hoodsport trail park. Commissioner Brazil asked if Randy Emery, a local citizen could cut out a log by the 18th hole at the trail park, K. Wyatt will be calling the Ports insurance company for their opinion.
Port Maintenance Reports:
Hoodsport Marina, Dock & Waterfront Park: B. Osborne spoke to the Hoodsport Dive Shop and asked if one of the divers could inspect around the Southwest side of the boat slips for dangerous deadhead logs. Someone emailed the Port to let them know there was a dangerous deadhead log that could poke a hole in a boat hull in low tide. The diver inspected it and said it was there, he would need an underwater saw to cut it out. Commissioner O’ Laughlin will contact someone who has an underwater saw.
Port parking/maintenance shed: B. Osborne replaced the fence boards and signs around the ports shed.
Public Restrooms: A nine inch steel toilet paper holder will be installed with extra locking mechanisms to deter toilet paper thieves. If it works out, another one will be installed in the women’s restroom. Maintenance will be inspecting the restrooms every two hours Friday through Monday and every three hours on all other days as the summertime crowd is bigger than ever.
Hoodsport Trail Park: B. Osborne put up a cable with reflectors and attached it to the bollards as a barrier across the parking entrance at the Hoodsport Trail park on the Lake Cushman golf course side of SR 119. A Volunteer from the Community College will be working with B. Osborne at the Hoodsport trail for course credits. K. Wyatt sent an email to the Lutheran Church in Oregon who brought some of their kids to work at the trail park last summer, to see if they were interested in working and camping again this year.
Port Operations Manager Report:
Commissioner Petz has been the point of contact dealing with dock contractors, engineers and the insurance company to find the best possible materials at the best price to repair the dock from last winter’s storms. K. Wyatt will be talking to the WSDOT grant program manager to find out the status of the joint application with WSDOT that was submitted last summer to find out if the Port was awarded public funds for the Traffic safety program in Hoodsport. K. Wyatt received an email from Dana Kampa with the Shelton Journal newspaper to find out if the port had any news worthy of a story. Commissioner Petz was interested in contacting her when the Disc Golf course is completed and ready for their grand opening. K. Wyatt reported that she heard someone organized a fireworks show in downtown Hoodsport on the 4th of July. Commissioner O’ Laughlin asked how people were notified that there would be a show and wanted to know who the organizer was. He suggested that ‘No Fireworks’ signs are posted along the waterfront on Port property next year to deter anyone from launching fireworks on Port property. He also suggested someone call the Fish and Wildlife agency or the Sheriff if it happens in the future. The septic system for the public restrooms was pumped as part of their bi annual pumping to keep the septic system running smoothly, Commissioner Petz was given a copy to review. Commissioner Brazil asked if Morgan could be present at the next port meeting to discuss progress on the disc golf course. Commissioner O’ Laughlin informed the commission that Chinook salmon fishing starts on July 1st and there is an additional shrimping day on July 19th.
