Hoodsport Trail Park – Volunteer Work Party

When:           Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 10 am – 2 pm (Rain or Shine)

Who:             Volunteers 18 yrs. of age and older who want to help clean up the trail

What:            Trail Park clean up and grooming of soft surface trail

Where:          Hoodsport Trail Park – Hwy 119, about 3.1 miles west of Hoodsport


Scope of Work:

  • Clear and groom trails – Entails trimming branches and removing debris from the current trails.

Tools to bring:  Hand saws, rakes, pruning shears and loppers.

  • Hauling & Spreading Bark – Entails moving bark from piles and spreading it in designated areas.

Tools to bring:  Wheelbarrows, rakes, and garden hoe or shovels.

  • Staking up small trees – Entails tying small trees to long stakes to encourage them to grow strong and straight.

Tools to bring:  Sledgehammer or mallets to pound in stakes.

Volunteers need to register and sign a liability waiver prior to participating in the event. Visit our website at www.portofhoodsport.us for more information. Volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the uneven terrain and to bring work gloves.

The Port of Hoodsport will provide extra work gloves, eye protection, trail park maps, bottled water and snacks along with the supplies needed to complete the tasks including the POH Volunteer – Release and Waiver of Liability.

The Port of Hoodsport’s commission is pleased to announce the reopening schedule for the 80-acre Hoodsport Trail Park. The year-long project to remove diseased, dying, and fallen hazard trees will be completed by the end of May 2023, with a Grand Re-Opening scheduled for Saturday May 27th at 10 am. To prepare for the re-opening, a volunteer work party is scheduled for Saturday, May 13th, from 10 am – 2 pm. Volunteers will groom soft surface hiking trails, distribute bark, and provide general trail maintenance. Volunteers must be at least 18 yrs. old and will need to register and sign a liability waiver to participate. As part of the reforestation project, 3000 Cedar trees (impervious to laminated root rot also known as Poria weirii disease), were purchased and replanted within the park to restore the forest and wildlife habitat; and to protect soil and water resources. With continued support and investment, our trail park has the potential to make a lasting impact on the health of the environment and economy of our community.


Along with the re-opening of the Hoodsport Trail Park, the Port is also pleased to re-open the Hoodsport Hills Disc Golf Course situated on 20 acres on the South side of State Rt 119, adjacent to the Lake Cushman Golf Course. The course is in a beautiful, forested setting emphasizing its natural aesthetics, a wonderful environment for professional and amateur disc golfers. Disc golf clinics and tournaments at the 9-hole disc golf course events can be scheduled by submitting an event application to the Port of Hoodsport.  Facility event applications can be found on the Port’s website at www.portofhoodsport.us  Go to the ‘about us’ tab, then to the ‘facility use events’ tab
