Public Communication: Jan Morris talked about the Fjordin Crossin event held at the Ports waterfront park in June. The paddlers had a great time except the wind kicked up when they were in the middle of the canal and the timing was bad for wind and waves. The people that participated have come into the distillery and are buying the aquavit as a memento. The lady Alderbrook had only eight people on board for the event however they all loved it and would do it again next year. The electricity at the waterfront park was a disaster as far as one of the food vendors warming trays kept throwing the gfi and eventually had to use the power from the dive shop. B. Osborne said this issue has since been corrected by an electrician. None of the vendors made money; there just weren’t enough people at the event buying food and drinks. Everyone had a good time and would do it again. Jan said that Poulsbo has interesting Vendors with themes and high quality merchandise that fit in with the theme. She was interested in attracting those types of Vendors to her next event and possibly have them set up at both ends of town so they are not congested in one area of town. Jan spoke to the Swedish club who may participate, they are building a Scandinavian boat that may be a part of the celebration next year.

Commissioner O’ Laughlin suggested looking at the tide chart for next year’s event and choosing a date and time when the tide is more moderate. Commissioner Brazil gave Jan a business card for Thurston Talk who could be a part of her advertising for next year since it is online and a community of bloggers talking about events. Commissioner O’ Laughlin suggested involving the local radio station KMAS who may want to broadcast directly from the event. Jan said people in town would like for her to form an events committee and she was considering doing it with some local participation.

Commissioner Reports: Commissioner O’ Laughlin spoke to Chris Gleason with Tacoma Power regarding taking a tour of the fish hatchery as a group today at 11 a.m.

Port Maintenance Reports:

Hoodsport Marina, Dock & Waterfront Park:

Port parking/maintenance shed: Household trash is regularly being left by the Port dumpster.

Public Restrooms: B. Osborne is ordering more of the steel toilet paper holders for the other stalls in both bathrooms and one for the trail park outhouse. Young people are hanging out in and around the restrooms until after the door locks. One person stays on the inside and then they prop the door open so they can do whatever they do inside. S. Lindgren has been there a couple of times as a deterrent. Someone also was in a panic when the door locked and called 911 to help them get out of the restroom. There is a big red button on the wall that says ‘push to exit’ but instead someone dismantled the deadbolt and threw the parts and pieces on the ground in front of the restroom. K. Wyatt ordered a sign for the outside that says, ‘Doors lock at 10pm Release button located inside next to door’.

Hoodsport Trail Park: B. Osborne will be building the roof for the kiosk and S. Lindgren will paint the interior of the outhouse.

Port Operations Manager Report:

K. Wyatt submitted the dock repair proposal to the Ports insurance company adjuster; she said she would handle contacting the contractor and submit a check to fabricate the materials. K. Wyatt contacted John Wynands at the WSDOT to invite him to one of the port meetings to speak to the commission regarding variable radar speed signs and flashing crosswalk beacons in an effort to move forward with the traffic and pedestrian safety in Hoodsport. Commissioner O’ Laughlin reminded the commission that four speed signs were installed on State Route 106 and they don’t have near the traffic Hwy 101 has every day. K. Wyatt read the email from Morgan updating the progress on the disc golf course. Commissioner Petz suggested the Port meet the new disc Shelton golf president and to sign another memorandum of understanding agreement with him as president. Commissioner Brazil would like to know when there will be a grand opening to celebrate.
