Commissioner Reports:
Commissioner Brazil said a common question he hears from the local business owners is, “where are the traffic safety speed sign and flashing crosswalks as discussed in a public meeting in 2015”? The Port along with WSDOT jointly applied for public funding for the traffic safety devices and funding is only in odd years, the approval letters will be sent out in June of 2017, we are still waiting for grant approval. Commissioner O’Laughlin said he will be talking to someone at WSDOT about the upcoming Fjord Crossin’ event on June 24th regarding traffic safety. Commissioner Brazil found out who owned and dumped the abandoned trailer chassis that was left in the parking area at the Hoodsport Trail Park, he called the owner who apologized stating his workers must have dumped it there, he immediately had it removed and apologized to the Port for the carelessness of his crew. Commissioner O’ Laughlin and B. Osborne are members of the local Kiwanis, the club asked if they could hand their Plant Sale sign along the fencing at the waterfront park, Commissioners Brazil and Petz said they were both OK with the sign.
Port Maintenance Reports:
Hoodsport Marina, Dock & Waterfront Park: B. Osborne checked on the pressure washer, it needs a carburetor and will be ready to pick up this week. The grass at the waterfront park has been reseeded, weeded and ready to mow once per week.
Port parking/maintenance shed: B. Osborne ordered boards to replace the fence around the shed and will be repainting the shed.
Public Restrooms: Paint was ordered to repaint the restroom walls and non slip paint will be applied to the floors. Someone pulls the rolls off of the steel bar and throws the entire rolls into the toilets in the mens restroom at least 3 times per week so a steel toilet paper dispenser was ordered and will be installed with an extra lock on it in an effort to prevent toilet paper vandalism.
Hoodsport Trail Park: The bollards and chain will be installed at the upper parking area and across the street on the 20 acre side by the Lake Cushman development.
Port Operations Manager Report:
Kristin with PUD#1 has taken the initiative to be the direct contact with the NorthWest Olympic Development Council (NWODC) to gather all of the information the grant writer needed for a partnered grant application to WSDOT for funding of the Electric Vehicle Car Charging station in Hoodsport, this task entailed site host and in kind agreements with the site host IGA, letters of proposals from installation vendors, electrical component specs from the utility company, letter of intent by the Port of Hoodsport and letters of support from the local businesses which were collected by Commissioner Brazil to submit along with the grant application to WSDOT for funding of the Electric Vehicle Car Charging station. The grant application was submitted on behalf of several locations from Olympia to Port Angeles in hopes to install EV Car Charging stations at 40 mile intervals all along the Highway 101 corridor. The grant application deadline is May 15th, Commissioner Petz asked for a copy of the application once completed for the ports file and as reference. Commissioner Petz will meet with another Engineer and Construction company to determine the best way to repair the port dock for maximum strength to lengthen the life of the dock before a complete re construction is needed. The Port of Hoodsport has a request to use the waterfront park for a public event scheduled for June 24th called the Fjord Crossin which has been discussed in prior meetings. The Port Commission adopted a Facility Use Agreement which was approved by their insurance company. Commissioner O' Laughlin made a motion to give tentative approval to adopt the Facility Use Agreement giving the Port manager latitude to change it as needed specifically for any other groups that may be requesting the use of the waterfront park or any other areas belonging to the Port of Hoodsport. Commissioner Brazil seconded the motion and it was adopted as Resolution #17-01 Facility Use Agreement.
