MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR COMMISSION MEETING

OF THE PORT OF HOODSPORT COMMISSION

August 13, 2014

Approval of Agenda:
Commissioner Petz made a motion to approve the 08-13-14 meeting agenda. Commissioner O’Laughlin seconded, unanimously approved.

Minutes:
Commissioner O’Laughlin made a motion to approve the minutes of July 16, 2014. Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Vouchers:
Commissioner O’Laughlin made a motion to approve the Voucher of August 2014 21of1 $10,173.25 Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Public Communication:

none

Commissioner Reports:

The Port is on a fact finding mission only for possible Recreational activities geared for economic development to bring tourism, local jobs, fun and local revenue to Hoodsport. When it is determined by the Port and Public that the activities are feasible, the Port will solicit bids from all Vendors to get the best RFP with guidelines acceptable to the Port.

There will be further discussion with the County to determine feasibility of the selected property for additional Public parking.

Commissioner O’Laughlin will be speaking at the Lilliwaup Community Center regarding the Ports ideas about expanding recreational activities to promote economic development, local jobs & tourism.

Commissioner Brazil discussed updating the Comprehensive & Master Plan to include enhanced recreational opportunities. An open meeting will be held when the Commission is ready to adopt an amendment to the comprehensive and master plans. Commissioner Brazil spoke to Carlos, owner of the Mexican restaurant in Hoodsport regarding business owners forming a committee to subsidize funds for future fireworks. Commissioner O’Laughlin will check in to RCW’s regarding the distance from launching of the fireworks that the public is required to be.

Port Maintenance Reports:

Hoodsport Marina: Use of the boat slips & moorage has increased. Someone kicked in and destroyed the moorage fees box. Public Restrooms: Usual maintenance regarding plugged toilets and toilet paper theft. Hoodsport Trail Park: There have been many hikers utilizing the trail park.

Trail names were selected for the Hoodsport Trail Park; signs will be made and installed.

Port Operations Manager Report:

The State Auditor followed up on reimbursement of money owed by previous Port Commissioners. A Commercial Property Appraisal will be done prior to acquiring property for public parking. A Grant writer with experience and success in obtaining grant money for Port projects was contacted to talk about possible grants to subsidize recreational enhancements. DNR has been contacted regarding possible easements through their land to build a trail linking the Hoodsport trail park and Foothills Park. Ongoing discussion and fact finding, exploration and research continue regarding Canopy Tours, Disc Golf, Trail Extension & additional public parking in town. Coordinating a time when the Commissioners can walk the corners of the Hoodsport Trail Park. Research and consultation is ongoing to determine steps on acquiring additional public parking and the trail extension.

Budget:
Review of Expenditures/Revenue month ending July 2014

Old Business:

An interest in Canopy Tours will be investigated further to determine the feasibility of this sport in this area. Disc Golf will also be examined as it has become a popular sport. Both of these sports could bring tourism and local jobs to the Hoodsport area. Extending the hiking trail from Hoodsport Trail Park to the Foothills Park is being explored. The Additional downtown public parking is being explored with the County. The Port is working on a Revision of Comprehensive Plan.
