MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR COMMISSION MEETING

OF THE PORT OF HOODSPORT COMMISSION

June 18, 2014

Approval of Agenda:
Commissioner O’Laughlin made a motion to approve the 06-18-14 meeting agenda. Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Minutes:
Commissioner O’Laughlin made a motion to approve the minutes of June 11, 2014. Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Vouchers:
Commissioner O’Laughlin made a motion to approve the Voucher of June 2014 2of2 $1,208.36 Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Public Communication:

Commissioner Reports:

A motion was made by Commissioner O’Laughlin, seconded by Commissioner Petz and unanimously agreed upon to sign an Interlocal agreement with Mason County Public Works for reimbursable work to be done on Port properties utilizing their resources.

Commissioner Brazil spoke to the manager at Lake Cushman golf course regarding interest in developing a Disc Golf course on Port property adjacent to the golf course; they were cooperative and interested in the concept. Contact information was obtained for the owner of the Dow Creek campground in regards to an alternative access to the Trail park.

Commissioner O’Laughlin met with the County Engineer to determine whether or not a strip of land adjacent to Port property can be approved for much needed downtown public parking. Further discussions with the County Environmental department will occur in the next few weeks.

Port Maintenance Reports:

Hoodsport Marina: Use of the boat slips has increased. No problems to report. The Fire line will be repaired and Floats under the dock will be repaired prior to the Celebrate Hoodsport fireworks. Public Restrooms: Usual maintenance regarding plugged toilets and toilet paper theft. The Septic tanks will be pumped on July 2nd in anticipation of extraordinary amounts of people over the 4th of July weekend. Hoodsport Trail Park: Boy Scouts will be cleaning some areas at the trail park on June 28th from 10am-2pm in exchange for camping compliments of the Lake Cushman Resort. Commissioner O’Laughlin made a motion to approve an hourly rate increase for the Maintenance Director; it was seconded by Commissioner Petz and unanimously approved. The Port procured a Weed whacker and Backpack Blower which were purchased locally.

Port Operations Manager Report:

The commission was briefed on the following items; 2nd ¼ timesheets, mandatory OPM training, hanging Flower basket invoice. Ongoing discussion and fact finding exploration regarding Canopy Tours and Disc Golf continue. Enduris Insurance adjuster will be inspecting damage and repairs to the Port dock. Celebrate Hoodsport preparations are underway: Signs will be posted regarding boats to clear the dock and parking of vehicles to ensure clear pathways for Port staff, Pyrotechnic staff, Sheriffs, Tow Truck, Fire department and Aide vehicles on the evening of the Fireworks event. WSP Troopers will be stationed at the corner of Hwy 101 and State Rt 119. All arrangements have been made for Traffic Control and Public Safety. Commissioner O’Laughlin and the Director or Maintenance will be on duty on the 5th of July to ensure all of the above are carried out according to plan. An email was received by the WSU 4H Forestry crew Supervisor that they did not receive funding for their program this year and will not be working at the trail park this summer. There was discussion on retaining a Grant writer to take advantage of upcoming Grants to develop and or maintain Port properties.

Old Business:

There was continued discussion on the Food Bank Van and their alternatives.

An interest in Canopy Tours will be investigated further to determine the feasibility of this sport in this area. Disc Golf will also be examined as it has become a popular sport. Both of these sports could bring tourism and local jobs to the Hoodsport area. The Additional downtown public parking is being explored with the County.
