MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR PORT COMMISSION MEETING

    OF THE PORT OF HOODSPORT COMMISSION    

May 24, 2017

Call to Order: 9:00am Adjourned: 10:30am

Approval of Agenda: Commissioner Brazil made a motion to approve the May 24, 2017 meeting agenda, Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Minutes: Commissioner Brazil made a motion to approve the Regular Port Commission minutes of April 26, 2017; Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

Vouchers: Commissioner Petz motioned to approve the following Vouchers for payment May 1 of 1 totaling $6,293.86; Commissioner Brazil seconded, unanimously approved.

Public Communication: Jan Morris with the Hardware Distillery is the event sponsor for the Fjordin Crossin, an event she will be sponsoring at the Port of Hoodsport’s waterfront park and dock on Saturday June 24th. Bill Heil with Hood Canal Electric was available to answer questions regarding a request to install a 50 Amp electrical service at the waterfront park for one4 of Jan’s Vendors to connect a piece of equipment. Jan relayed that particular vendor was not quite sure if they were definitely participating in the event for various reasons. Commissioner O’ Laughlin said the Port would install the 50 amp service only if the vendor was definitely going to participate as it will cost approximately $600. to install the electrical outlet; however once installed, it could be used in the future for use in other events. Jan was concerned about the trash disposal at the event. Commissioner Brazil said they may need more trash receptacles and that they could use the Ports dumpster to throw away the bags during and after the event. Jan said that Bruce and Parker volunteered to help her by directing parking for the public and trash removal.

Commissioner Reports: Commissioner Brazil said he was notified by Lake Cushman security that a blue pickup truck was parked at the Hoodsport Trail park upper parking lot with its windows down in the pouring rain. The next day it was gone so they believe it was inoperable and was waiting for a tow.

Port Maintenance Reports:

Hoodsport Marina, Dock & Waterfront Park: Flower baskets and planters have been fed, the sprinkler system is up & running, the lawns are mowed once per week before the week end.

Port parking/maintenance shed: B. Osborne removed old boards and will be replacing the fence around the shed.

Public Restrooms: The interior of the restrooms will be repainted and the floor will be repainted with the non slip material.

Hoodsport Trail Park: The bollards have been installed at the upper parking area and across the street on the 20 acre side by the Lake Cushman development.

Port Operations Manager Report:

K. Wyatt said the paperwork for the grant in regards to the EV Car Charging station had been submitted by the North Olympic Development Council on May 16th. The Port of Hoodsport partnered with five public and private entities for grant money to fund electric car charging stations which will span from Olympia to Port Angeles at approximately 40 mile intervals. Kristin with PUD#1 was very instrumental in helping the Port with required information for the grant application and will keep the Port posted on the status of approval for the public funds. Commissioner O’ Laughlin said he would talk to Senator Tim Sheldon about the Port partnering with entities for grant money to acquire and install the EV Car Charging station in Hoodsport since Senator Sheldon is on the Transportation Committee. K. Wyatt and Wittenberg CPA just completed the Schedule 22 annual audit performed by the state auditor.

Commissioner Petz is the lead contact on the boat dock repairs, having conversation with engineers and the contractor to finalize exactly what is needed to repair the boat dock. He said they are still inquiring about materials and design of the repair for strength and longevity to stand up to the salt water, wave action and wind. The week of May 15th was the Candidate filing period for the Port of Hoodsport Commissioner Position 2 in which Commissioner Petz finished his 6 year term. Commissioner Petz filed with Mason County to be re elected for Port Commissioner Position 2, no other candidates filed during the filing week to run against him.
